We Are PA’s Literacy Movement
About Us
Launched in January 2025 by Teach Plus PA, the PA Literacy Coalition is a nonpartisan, cross-sector coalition committed to ending Pennsylvania’s literacy crisis.
As literacy advocates across the state worked tirelessly—often in isolation—we saw the need for a unified, coordinated voice to advance evidence-based policy and sustained investment. Teach Plus PA brought together educators, caregivers, community leaders, and partner organizations to build that collective movement.
Today, our members are united around a shared belief: every child deserves access to high-quality, evidence-based reading instruction.
Together, we are building a statewide movement focused not only on legislation, but on implementation that drives real classroom impact.
Pennsylvania’s literacy crisis is urgent, measurable, and solvable.

Our Vision
We envision a Pennsylvania where every child becomes a confident, proficient reader—and where every educator is equipped with the knowledge, training, and resources necessary to deliver high-quality literacy instruction.
Our Mission
We unite cross-sector stakeholders across Pennsylvania to advance evidence-based literacy policy and secure sustained public investment so every student has access to high-quality reading instruction.
Our Approach
We drive change through:
Policy advocacy
Public education and awareness
Cross-sector collaboration
Elevating field experiences to inform implementation
Our work bridges research, policy, and practice.
Coalition Integrity
The PA Literacy Coalition is independent and nonpartisan.
To maintain the integrity of our advocacy:
We do not accept membership from literacy vendors or companies that sell curriculum or assessments
Vendor organizations may not influence our policy agenda
Individuals may engage in a personal capacity
Our priorities are guided by research and the needs of Pennsylvania students, not by commercial interests.
