WHO WE ARE
A statewide movement for literacy.
The Pennsylvania Literacy Coalition was launched in January 2025 by Teach Plus Pennsylvania to address a challenge we saw across the Commonwealth: organizations and advocates were doing important literacy work, but too often in isolation.
Pennsylvania needed a unified, coordinated voice capable of bringing together educators, families, advocates, researchers, business leaders, and community partners around a shared literacy agenda.
Today, more than 95 organizations are working together to strengthen literacy policy, secure the investment needed to implement it well, and ensure the experiences of educators, students, families, and communities inform decisions at the state level.
Our shared belief is simple: every child deserves access to high-quality, evidence-based reading instruction.

We envision a Pennsylvania where every child becomes a confident, proficient reader – and every educator is equipped with the knowledge, training, materials, and support needed to deliver high-quality literacy instruction.
Our north star is ambitious:

We help bridge policy and practice.
Passing strong policy is only the beginning. The Coalition works across the education and policy ecosystem to help create the conditions for successful statewide implementation.
We convene partners, advocate for investment, elevate stakeholder voices, share implementation lessons, and connect needs from the field with state decision-makers.
The PA literacy Coalition is not a curriculum vendor, professional, professional development provider, compliance agency, or replacement for PDE, Intermediate Units, districts or schools.
Our role is to help Pennsylvania move from policy to practice with greater coordination, clarity, investment, and accountability.
